A 🎵Note🎵 from the President
I am so glad you made it see our holiday extravaganza, “Rebel Without a Claus.” I hope it helps you feel a little more connected to a loving and supportive community as you go through these weeks of celebrations. You deserve to be with ones who love you and those that you love, and I wish that for you.
As an active member of the Chorus, along with serving on the Board of Directors for YOUR Chorus, I’ve been reminded this season of how important it is to have our sanctuaries. Creating safe spaces to be vulnerable, to belong to something bigger than yourself, to share our stories was the main part of my and Chris Hamblin’s vision when we started KGMC 10 years ago. As anti-LGBTQ rhetoric, laws disregarding the lives and experience of our transgender Tennesseans, and actual violence have been attacking some of our most treasured spaces, in some cases even heartlessly taking precious lives, it’s made us aware of how much we value these spaces we create.
You’ll learn today about how we are hoping to grow, allowing ourselves to be a safe space for even more people to have a voice and find somewhere to belong. We are excited to let you in on this milestone in our story, as we commit ourselves even further to being just that. We hope to remind the community across East Tennessee why we sing and why it’s crucial that spaces MUST exist for those who need it.
As we continue grow, we are excited and more than comfortable asking you for even more support to help us broaden our reach, as volunteers, as artists, and of course, with your pocketbooks. Some of our future plans to give more folks a chance to be onstage will require us to hire more staff this Spring and Summer, require us to get the news out to those who need to hear it, and other necessary costs to make the magic happen.
Be part of creating an even bigger safe space for our increasingly diverse membership. Would you be willing to sign up as a volunteer?
Ready to become a new donor?
Ever wonder if your own workplace would like to sponsor the Chorus?
How about share with your LGBTQ friends and family about how this space can be for them?
We’d love to help you find ways to be included in what we’ve got cookin’!!
